Somiedo Natural Park
Somiedo Natural Park is one of the best-preserved areas in Spain, whose protection dates back to 1988. Visiting this area of Asturias means immersing yourself in the mountains of the Cantabrian Mountains, in nature and local culture. Are you ready?
Enter the mountains of the Cantabrian brown bear and decipher the glacial heritage of its valleys and lakes. Enjoy its flora and well-known fauna, learn about the ethnographic heritage and challenge the Steandhal syndrome by observing its beautiful landscapes.
Our first stop on the way will be in the capital of the council, Pola de Somiedo, ideal for a technical stop (coffee and bathrooms). Here, you will visit with your guide the interpretation aula of the Natural Park, receiving explanations on geology, flora, fauna, and history that, later, will be expanded as the excursion continues in the open air. Then, following the footsteps of the great cyclists of La Vuelta, we will reach the Farrapona peak to take a walk between mountains, admire the Saliencia valley and reach La Cueva lake, cataloged as a Natural Monument, so you should not forget your camera!
After the exercise, which has whetted our appetite, we will go to Valle de Lago or either La Peral where we can enjoy authentic culinary specialties of Asturian cuisine (food not included). In the early afternoon, we will go in search of the legacy of the vaqueiros de alzada and, thus, will be able to discover the most remote corners of Somiedo, which few know. Shhhh, this is a secret …
