This visit allows us to enjoy Asturian medieval history, the Picos de Europa landscapes, the holy place and pilgrimage of Covadonga, as well as the stroll through the first capital of the Asturian Kingdom, Cangas de Onís.
Our first target is Ercina lake, from where we will have the opportunity to reach the Entrelagos viewpoint and observe the two lakes of Covadonga and the alpine surroundings around us. The bucolic scenery reminds us that pastoral life and the production of artisan cheese are inseparable from these Cantabrian mountains.
Next, we will descend to the holy place of Covadonga to visit the Holy Cave, inside which the image of the “Santina” is displayed and the remains of Pelayo, the first king of the Asturian monarchy, found his eternal rest. Before leaving, we will discover the environment where the Covadonga battle took place and the interior of the Santa María la Real de Covadonga basilica.
Cangas de Onís will be our last stop, where we will have time to eat (not included), enjoy the iconic Roman Bridge and the Chapel of the Holy Cross (exterior) before returning to our accommodation.
