The Saliencia Lakes hiking route takes us to know three different lakes in the heart of the Cantabrian mountains and above 1700 meters of altitude, where nature and landscapes take over our sensations: are you ready?
As soon as we start walking, your guide will tell you all the details about the origin of the lakes, the flora and fauna that inhabit these spaces, and the weight that history and traditional economic activities have had in the formation of these landscapes and the local identity.
Do you know the teito cabins? These thatched roof cabins, typical of Somiedo and Teverga, can already be seen in the Saliencia valley, at the head of which the route begins. From here, and ascending a wide track, we will reach the first viewpoints that, almost without realizing it, give way to the green meadows where the native breed cows feed and where the horses run free under the limestone rocks.
Did you know that Somiedo has one of the greatest diversity of butterflies in Asturias? This is also an ideal route to meet these fragile insects that, during the summer, bring color, together with alpine flowers, to these wide grasslands. Their life cycle and habitual behavior is super interesting!
The return route takes us to Lake Calabazosa, the most secluded and shrouded in mystery of all, whose views from the viewpoints will leave us perplexed by such beauty. Do not forget to take your camera on your walk and leave stress in the mountains …
